Lung Health Checks

Lung Health Checks

Information on free lung health checks

Targeted lung health checks are a two stage process in which the health of your lungs are assessed. You will have a phone call or meeting with a health professional to evaluate your chances of developing lung cancer. If you are identified as someone with a higher chance of developing lung cancer, you'll be invited for a quick scan. The scan takes a detailed image of your lungs to be reviewed. If a problem is found, a referral will be made for treatment.

We are running free Targeted Lung Health Checks for our local people in Peterborough.  Initially this is for patients registered at the Thistlemoor Medical Centre though we are planning to expand across the system in due course. For the assessment, we are planning to invite those who are between the ages of 55 – 74 who have ever smoked. After the assessment, those patients suitable will be sent for a low dose CT scan.

The main aim of the health checks is to identify lung cancers earlier but will also have the impact of finding other incidental diseases at an earlier stage.

You can find out more on Targeted Lung Health Checks on both the East of England Cancer Alliance website and the NHS website.
