The Vaccinators on Tour, Cambridgeshire & Peterborough’s mobile COVID-19 vaccination team, have today been announced as a finalist for the prestigious national HSJ Awards.

The Vaccinators have been travelling across Cambridgeshire & Peterborough since June 2021, offering COVID-19 vaccinations closer to home to local communities. Powered by staff from Cambridgeshire Community Services (CCS) NHS Trust and led by NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, the Vaccinators have enjoyed support from partners across the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System, including voluntary sector organisations, Local Authorities, and other NHS trusts.

The Vaccinators on Tour is backed by a dedicated website and campaign that helps residents across the area find walk-in opportunities near them quickly and easily – with a flagship Vaccinators tour bus delivering vaccines and raising awareness of the life-saving jab.

So far the team have visited a great number of varied locations to offer the vaccine, including Peterborough United Football Stadium, the Guildhall in Peterborough, and King’s College in Cambridge. The tour bus and the Vaccinators’ smaller vaccination units also regularly visit sites in more rural communities in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, including in Littleport, West Bretton, and Wisbech.

The team’s work has now been recognised by the HSJ Awards, with the Vaccinators shortlisted for the Covid Vaccination Programme Award. An astounding 1,067 entries were submitted to the HSJ Awards this year, with a skilled judging panel selecting those projects and teams that made an outstanding contribution to healthcare for the shortlist.

Following the thorough judging process, the Vaccinators on Tour was shortlisted, ahead of the official awards ceremony to be held later this year (November 17th).

Jan Thomas, Chief Executive of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Integrated Care System said:

“We’re thrilled that the Vaccinators on Tour have been shortlisted for the HSJ Awards 2022. Working with colleagues at organisations throughout the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System, the Vaccinators team has been able to vaccinate thousands of people closer to home – offering our local communities the best protection against COVID-19.

“The Vaccinators will continue to tour our area over the coming weeks and months; so if you haven’t had your vaccine yet or are due a top-up please don’t hesitate to come forward. You can find a walk-in clinic near you on our dedicated Vaccinators website, and our friendly vaccinating team will be thrilled to offer you the vaccination.”

Mike Passfield, Clinical Operations Director, Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust said:

“I am incredibly proud of the vital role our staff and volunteers have played in successfully delivering the vaccination programme from our large-scale centres and other sites.

“Being shortlisted for this award with our partners is fantastic recognition for the teams and everyone who works behind the scenes to ensure many thousands of local people have received this life-saving jab and will continue to do so when the Autumn booster campaign starts later this year.”

People in Cambridgeshire & Peterborough can find a walk-in clinic near them via www.thevaccinators.co.uk. Those people who prefer to book can still do so online via www.nhs.uk/covidvaccine, or by calling 119.

HSJ editor Alastair McLellan, adds; “On behalf of all my colleagues, it gives me great pleasure to congratulate Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care System on being shortlisted as a finalist in the category of Covid Vaccination Programme Award. All of the applications represent the ‘very best of the NHS’ and often leave our esteemed panel of judges with an impossible choice!

“Year on year the number of entrants continue to rise which I find so encouraging and is testament to the effect that HSJ Awards can have on improved staff culture and morale.

“We’re all very much looking forward to welcoming our finalists to the awards ceremony in November, celebrating their impressive achievements and jointly acknowledging our values of sharing best practice, improving patient outcomes and continuously driving for better service. But we never forget that the award ceremony is not just a celebration within a night, but a platform to recognise the hard work of all our NHS staff, all year round.”
