Last chance this winter for
The local NHS is encouraging eligible people who’ve not had their COVID-19 vaccine, to get protected before the spring COVID-19 vaccination programme ends on 31 January 2026.
Over 73,000 people have been vaccinated across Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Royston since the autumn/winter COVID-19 vaccination programme started on 1 September 2026.
Anyone who’s eligible for the vaccine and not been vaccinated can still come forward and get theirs. The COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for people who are at higher risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19, this includes anyone who is:
-
aged 75 or over (including those who will be 75 by 31 January 2026)
-
aged 6 months to 74 years and have a weakened immune system because of a health condition or treatment
-
living in a care home for older adults.
Cali Makewell, Integrated Vaccination Service Lead with NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough, said: “It might feel like you don’t need protection from COVID-19 this far into winter but the protection you will get from the vaccine will last for months, and the virus is not just a winter virus and it circulates around our local communities all year round.
“We know that vaccinations continue to be our best form of protection against severe COVID-19 symptoms and hospitalisation. So I would encourage anyone who has not yet had their winter booster to ensure they get their vaccine before it’s too late.”
