NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care Board (ICB) has awarded a five-year contract to deliver a new non-emergency patient transport service (NEPTS) to people across Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, and Royston to EMED Patient Care, a division of EMED Group.

Following a comprehensive procurement process, health and social care transport provider EMED Patient Care has been awarded the five-year contract and will deliver services from 1 October 2024; this will include transport and the call centre service.

The NEPT service supports people requiring specialist transport to attend outpatient appointments, receive treatment, and support with admission and discharge, across the Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and Royston. There’s a criteria to be eligible for the service, such as certain medical conditions or having limited mobility, other modes of transport may be detrimental to recovery or wellbeing, or renal dialysis treatment is being received.

Local people eligible for patient transport should continue to access the service as they do now and will be advised on how to do so nearer the launch of the new service.

Craig Smith, EMED Group’s CEO said: “We are delighted to be working with NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough ICB to provide vital Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services to those in the community who need our support. Patient transport plays a vital role in ensuring timely and efficient healthcare access, and our team is passionate about delivering the very best experience to all patients. We look forward to working in partnership with NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough ICB and wider stakeholders to positively impact the community's wellbeing.”
