Vaccine clinics success
Walk-in MMR, HPV and meningitis vaccination walk-in clinics across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough have vaccinated over 1,450 people since January 2024, with over 2,250 vaccinations given.
These vaccination clinics have been running at various locations across the county and are offering a range of vaccinations which include measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), HPV, meningitis ACWY vaccine and diphtheria, tetanus and polio vaccinations.
Measles cases are rising across England and 9.5% of children in the East of England are not protected by their 5th birthday. Additionally, it is estimated that 900,000 adults aged 19-25 have not had their MMR vaccination. Measles is not just a childhood disease; adults can become seriously unwell, and some younger adults might not realise they’ve not had the vaccine as a child.
Further walk-in clinics are running over the next month to give anyone who’s not been vaccinated a chance to come along. No appointment is required, unless stated, people can just turn up.

Cali Makewell, Integrated Vaccination Service Programme Lead, at NHS Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Integrated Care Board (ICB) said, “We’re really pleased that so many people have already come forward and got vaccinated at our walk-in clinics. Different groups of school age children will be offered some of these vaccines at school, such as HPV, so if you receive a consent form for your child to have a vaccination at school, please make sure you sign and return the consent form as soon as possible..
“Measles is one of the most infectious diseases in the world, and it’s not just a childhood disease as it can affect adults and children alike. I strongly urge any adult who’s not sure if they’ve had their childhood vaccinations to contact their GP practice to check.”
Each vaccine has a different age group who are eligible for the vaccine; there isn’t any other requirement other than fitting into the age group.
- Measles, mumps and rubella (MMR): 1+
- HPV: 12-24
- Meningitis: 13-24
- Diptheria, Tetanus and Polio (5th dose): 14+
